Amidst all the carnage of Iraq and Afghanistan, there are some hopeful developments. Most, of course, are not seen in the MSM but they’re there nonetheless. Blackfive, the Mudville Gazette, Michael Yon and Michael Totten are some of the best resources for finding true information on progress (or lack of it, if that’s the truth).

Some other news is simply too low key to be hear. Such as Christian activity in some Moslem countries.

Syria is 90% Muslim, 10% Christian. That Christian 10% is important, because it allows the Gideon ministry to function and IT IS. A Gideon camp was organized in Syria in July of this year. As in most countries, these Gideons have far more work to do than they can manage themselves, so they will need help from Christians around the world; both prayer and financial.

Many people are familiar with the Gideons as ‘those guys that put Bibles in hotels.’ That’s a pretty small part of our ministry, actuall.

Last year, the Gideons distributed over 70 million Bibles and Testaments around the world. We have local camps in 182 countries, which means that local people keep up the good work, even when the rest of us are locked out. Cuba recently allowed their Gideons to import 1 million Testaments.

Bibles and Testaments go out to countries in the language appropriate for each country. People are coming to Christ because of this. Much (but not all) of the Muslim world is closed to Christian witnessing, so having a country open up even this small bit is very encouraging.
